“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
Edgar Allen Poe
Do you know someone who cannot stop their destructive behaviors, despite their attempts or promises to change? Do you wish your loved one would get the help they need?
Don't let your compulsive behaviors and addictions continue to negatively impact your life, or the life of someone you love.
Compulsive behaviors and addictions of any kind, can lead to unmanageability in a person's life and in families, where the behaviors of the addict are affecting the entire family. Compulsive behaviors and addictions can undermine professional, academic, social, personal, and familial structures and responsibilities.
An addiction is any compulsive behavior, thought process, and psychobiological process, that cannot be stopped by sheer will. Addictions leads to unmanageability in one's life, at any age.
Addiction is often characterized by so-called “addictive thinking,” or the pattern of distorted reasoning the addict uses that perpetuates the addictive cycle despite severe life consequences. Compulsive behaviors are also rooted in attachment wounds, and are activated by unresolved shame and pain. Identifying and therapeutically challenging addictive thinking can lead to lasting healing and change.
